5 Football Records Held By Best Players Of Different Generations That May Prove Hard If Not Impossible For The Best Of Our Time Including Messi And Ronaldo To Break

Just Fontaine (with the ball) has scored more goals in a single World Cup more than any other player

Football stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are known to most as the two greatest players of our generation, and perhaps of all time. Fans are also acquainted with the incredible feats of achievements by these incredible two that decorate both their careers. Besides them, are still others who are worthy of recognition and commendation. But all other finest of our time are hugely eclipsed by these two 21st century soccer titans.
And then there is the popular G.O.A.T debate. Fans always give the two top places to either Messi or Ronaldo and the topmost position to either of the two. Here on this list are rare achievements by supposedly much inferior soccer stars that have stayed out of the reach of all the great players of our time especially the aforementioned duo. The records are difficult, not impossible to break or at least equal. And so hopes are still high that some or even all of the records will be broken by one of the amazing soccer talents this generation is blessed with. But do not get too hopeful because for some of them the odds are very high.

5. Most Goals By A Single Player In A Single World Cup

Just Fontaine performed exceptionally during the 1958 FIFA World Cup hosted in Sweden. He incredibly made history. He netted a total of 13 goals during the tournament, which still stands today as the most goals by a single player in a single World Cup. His amazing efforts helped his team to the semifinal.
He replaced injured teammate  René Bliard. He  showed his worth early in the tournament with a hat trick in France's 7-3 defeat of Paraguay. It was followed by another goal in his team's win over Scotland. Yet two more followed in the victory over Ireland. He scored also in the semifinal and France's 6-3 crushing defeat of West Germany. None has been able to replicate Fontaine's exceptional feat, but we hope someday near someone will, and perhaps definitely.

Pelé is considered by many the best to ever perform in a football pitch. And this is what jumps to mind about him most times he is remembered, the incredible amount he netted during his illustrious career.
He scored 1,281 goals between September 7, 1956, and October 1, 1977- a period of 1,363 matches. The majority of those goals were scored with Santos FC in Brazil, but also includes one he scored for the Brazilian national team and NY Cosmos in tr North American Soccer ( NASL).
Perhaps this fact shifts into proper perspective when it is considered that Messi and Ronaldo are still at least 400 goals each behind  Pelé's all-time score. Messi has scored 688 goals from 878 matches. Ronaldo himself has scored 708 goals from 1001 matches and both are close to retiring.

A hat trick is rare and hard to pull feat except for the exceptional minority. The two leading hat trick scorers are Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. On an all-time list of those with the most number of hattricks both rank below  Pelé who holds the top position.
Ronaldo is ahead of Messi in this aspect with 51 career hat tricks. Messi follows up with 48. 92 incredible are attributed to Pelé. Some of the hattricks were scored in friendly matches and reserve games.  Pelé's all-time tally is recognized by Guinness World Records. And as it seems this particular record may hold for a probable long time. It doesn't mean we underestimate what our generation's best are capable of.
