6 People That Met Their Tragic Ends Trying To Break/ Set World Records

Jessica Dubroff, a 7-year old pilot trainee lost her life along with her father while trying to break the record for flight across the U.S by the youngest person.

Many have become famous as record breakers and setters. These are people that were willing to endure the rigors and inconveniences involved. Some had been so determined to make history that they went to the length of indulging in risks that ended their lives.
Compiled here are people that lost their lives in the bid to rewrite history.

6. Sailendra Nath Roy


Nath Roy lost his life trying to become the person that has traveled the longest distance on a zip wire using his hair.
While traveling across the tests river in Darjeeling using only his hair, halfway across he suffered a massive heart attack and was confirmed dead.

5.  Lowell Bayles


He was a well known American air race and stunt pilot. He was determined to break the world speed record. Even though he succeeded in achieving his aim, fate came down hard on him. The plane's fuel cap came loose and flew to Bayles' head and taking him out. His plane crashed and he was pronounced dead at the scene of the disaster.

4.  Javad Palizbanian


Palizbanian wanted to rewrite history when he attempted to jump over about 22 buses parked side by side on a motorbike. He was trying to break the record for the longest jump on a motorcycle. He hit tragedy when his bike came down on the 13th buses, killing him instantly.

3.  Jessica Dubroff


She was a 7-year old pilot trainee. She wanted to set the world record for the youngest person to fly across the U.S. The dream was never achieved as she met her end when the plane flipped and crashed. Three people died in the crash including her father.

2. Janaka Basnayake


He wanted to be the first person to be buried alive for the longest time. The 24-year old Sri Lankan was placed in a 10-foot hole which family and friends helped dig, and his body was covered over with soil after he had been secured in a wooden chamber. After about 6 hours he was dug up and was found unconscious. He gave up in the hospital soon after.

1. Harris Suleman




He met his tragic end together with his father while on a flight, hoping to break the record for the youngest person to fly around the world in 30 days.
Their plane crashed after they had left Pago Pago in American Samoa. The lives of both father and son were lost.
